Ruby Fairy Moss

Meet the ruby form of juniper haircap moss, whose stiff little shoots take on warm red and bronze tones across open, sunny ground. Tipped with fine reddish hair-points, its colonies glow like scattered embers of colour among the greens.

This essence is made from a red form of Polytrichum juniperinum, the juniper haircap moss, in the family Polytrichaceae, the same widespread, hardy species behind the 'juniper mist' green form, here showing rich ruby-red and bronze colouring. Its upright shoots carry stiff, narrow leaves that fold inward and end in a fine hair-point, resembling tiny sprigs of juniper. Exposure to strong light and dry, open conditions can deepen the reddish tones of the stems and leaf tips. It grows on bare and disturbed soil, banks, gravel and heathland in New Zealand and around the world, often as a pioneer that clothes open ground. Its warm colouring makes it one of the more striking of the common haircap mosses.

What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

Start with how you are feeling and what you would most like support with right now.

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.
