Returns

Meet broadleaf, one of New Zealand's evergreen trees. Its glossy, bright apple-green leaves catch the light in coastal forest and windy hill country alike, a steady, hardy presence that shrugs off salt spray and cold.

Broadleaf (Griselinia littoralis) is a small to medium native tree, found the length of New Zealand from the coast to the mountains. It is prized for its thick, leathery, oval leaves of a vivid glossy green, borne on smooth pale branches. Remarkably tough, it tolerates wind, salt and cold, which is why it colonises exposed coastlines and high country and has long been a favourite for shelter and hedging. It often begins life perched as an epiphyte in the fork of another tree before rooting to the ground. Small greenish flowers give way to fruit that feeds native birds, making broadleaf a quietly generous part of the forest.

What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

Start with how you are feeling and what you would most like support with right now.

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.
