Fairy Bouquet Orchid

Meet Earina autumnalis, the autumn-flowering perching orchid Māori know as raupeka. In the cooler months it hangs from tree trunks and shaded rocks in clusters of small, sweetly scented white flowers, filling the forest air with one of New Zealand's loveliest natural perfumes.

Earina autumnalis is a native epiphytic orchid that grows on the trunks and branches of forest trees, and sometimes on shaded rock faces, throughout much of New Zealand. Its slender, arching stems bear narrow grassy leaves, and in autumn, around Easter, giving it the common name Easter orchid, it produces dense bunches of small white flowers with a golden throat. The flowers are famous for their strong, sweet fragrance, which can scent an entire clearing. Known to Māori as raupeka, it is closely related to the spring-flowering peka-a-waka (Earina mucronata). Like all perching orchids it takes nothing from its host tree, living lightly on rain and mist, a gentle marker of the turning season in the native bush.

What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

Start with how you are feeling and what you would most like support with right now.

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.
