Meet the plant
Cascading Clubmoss

Meet the nodding clubmoss, a soft, bushy fern ally whose branch tips curl over and droop as if bowing. It favours warm, damp, open ground, including geothermal areas, and belongs to one of the most ancient lineages of land plants.

Lycopodium cernuum, also placed by botanists in Lycopodiella or Palhinhaea, is a native clubmoss and fern ally that grows in warm, damp, open places across the north of New Zealand, often on clay banks, in wetland margins and around geothermal ground. It forms bushy, much-branched tufts that can look like tiny green trees, with fine, needle-like leaves and distinctive nodding branch tips that droop and curl over, giving it its common names. Like all clubmosses it is a lycophyte, reproducing by spores rather than seeds or flowers, in a way of life older than the ferns. Small cone-like structures at the drooping tips release the spores. Ancient in lineage yet delicate in form, the nodding clubmoss softens the bare, open ground it colonises.

Frequently Asked Questions

Explore Help Center
What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

Start with how you are feeling and what you would most like support with right now.

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

If you would like a personal recommendation you can send us a message or book in for a no obligation free consultation.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.
