Hanging Clubmoss

Meet the hanging clubmoss, a fern ally that dangles in soft green tassels from tree branches, rocks and banks. Its pendulous, cord-like stems belong to one of the oldest lineages of plants still living in New Zealand's forests.

Lycopodium varium, now often placed in Phlegmariurus or Huperzia, is a native clubmoss and fern ally that grows as a pendulous, hanging plant, draping from tree trunks and branches, mossy rocks and shaded banks throughout New Zealand, from the coast into the mountains. Its trailing stems are clothed in small, firm, overlapping leaves and taper into slender spore-bearing tips. Clubmosses are lycophytes, an ancient group of spore-plants that predate both ferns and flowering plants. Rather than climbing or standing upright, this species simply hangs, forming soft green tassels in humid, sheltered forest. Reproducing quietly by spores, the hanging clubmoss is a living link to the earliest chapters of plant life on land.

What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.
