Bronze Edge Sedge

Bronze edge sedge is one of New Zealand's bronze-toned native hair sedges, fine-leaved plants that spill in soft, weeping mounds coloured a warm bronze and copper. Their hair-like foliage catches the light along every edge, glowing tawny even in the depths of winter.

Bronze edge sedge belongs to the bronze-leaved native hair sedges, chiefly Carex comans and Carex flagellifera, which are widely grown in their coppery-bronze forms. These make soft, dense mounds of extremely fine, thread-like leaves that arch and weep to the ground, coloured warm bronze, tan and copper right through the year. They flower with small, inconspicuous brown seed heads carried on fine stems. Native to New Zealand, they grow in open grassland, damp hollows and disturbed ground, and are prized in gardens the world over for their fountaining shape and warm winter colour. As members of the sedge family (Cyperaceae) they favour cooler, moister soils.

What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

Start with how you are feeling and what you would most like support with right now.

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.
