Mairehau

Mairehau is a slender, aromatic native shrub whose leaves are dotted with tiny oil glands and carry a distinctive sweet, resinous scent. In late spring and early summer it is covered in clusters of small, starry white flowers with prominent projecting stamens. Its perfume carries on the air through the northern bush.

Mairehau (Phebalium nudum, now also placed in the genus Leionema) is a fragrant shrub of the citrus family, native to the northern North Island where it grows in lowland and coastal forest. Reaching about four metres, it has narrow leaves peppered with translucent oil glands, and the aromatic oil they hold is what gives the plant its sweet, resinous perfume. In late spring and early summer it bears masses of small, starry white flowers. Uncommon and restricted to the north, it is one of the quietly aromatic treasures of the northern bush, best enjoyed where it stands rather than handled, since the leaf oil can irritate skin in strong sunlight.

What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

Start with how you are feeling and what you would most like support with right now.

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.
