Meet the plant
Puriri

Pūriri is a broad, spreading tree of the warm northern forest, its glossy five-fingered leaves shading a trunk that can grow massive and gnarled with age. It carries clusters of rosy-pink flowers and bright pinky red berries, making it a beloved larder for tui, kereru and other native birds.

Vitex lucens is one of New Zealand's finest broadleaf trees, endemic to the upper North Island where it grows in coastal and lowland forest. Its shining, deeply veined leaves are divided like a hand, and it flowers and fruits through much of the year, the pink to red blooms and scarlet drupes feeding native birds and supporting the whole forest around it. Puriri timber is exceptionally hard, heavy and durable. Home to the puriri moth, New Zealand's largest moth, with a wingspan of up to 150 mm. It can spend the first five to six years of its life as a caterpillar in a tree trunk. Some ancient trees are woven into local history as burial trees or landmarks that have watched over their valleys for centuries.

Frequently Asked Questions

 Explore Help Center
What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

Start with how you are feeling and what you would most like support with right now.

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

If you would like a personal recommendation you can send us a message or book in for a no obligation free consultation.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.
