Snow Grass

Snow grass is the great snow tussock of New Zealand's mountains, forming large golden clumps that cloak the high country. It stands tall through frost and snow, its long leaves rippling in silver waves across the tops when the alpine wind moves through the grassland.

Snow grass is the common name for the snow tussocks (Chionochloa), a group of large native tussock grasses that dominate New Zealand's alpine and subalpine grasslands, with stiff snow tussock (Chionochloa rigida) among the most familiar. They form big, dense clumps of long, tough, arching leaves, often more than a metre high, coloured in golds, tawny browns and greens that shift with the light. Superbly adapted to cold, exposed mountains, snow tussocks endure heavy snow, frost and wind, and their deep clumps are vital to the high-country water cycle, catching moisture and releasing it slowly into streams. They flower irregularly in 'mast' years, when whole hillsides turn feathery with seed heads. Snow grasslands are one of the defining landscapes of the South Island uplands.

What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.
