Manawa-ora

Manawa-ora, more often called monoao, is a rare northern New Zealand conifer. As a young tree it wears long, flat juvenile leaves, then matures into a tree with tiny scale leaves, a quiet, ancient member of the podocarp forests of the north.

Manawa-ora (Halocarpus kirkii), commonly known as monoao or Kirk's pine, is a slow-growing native conifer endemic to New Zealand and confined to the upper North Island, from Northland to the Coromandel and nearby areas. It belongs to the podocarp family (Podocarpaceae) and, like many New Zealand conifers, goes through a striking change as it grows: juvenile plants bear long, narrow, leathery leaves, while mature trees carry small, tightly pressed scale-like leaves on their branchlets. It grows into a spreading tree of ridgelines, poor soils and open forest, and is classified as an at-risk, declining species, making wild trees a precious sight. Its heartwood is aromatic and resinous. As one of New Zealand's lesser-known conifers with a very limited range, manawa-ora is a quiet, resilient survivor of the ancient northern forests.

What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.
