Meet the plant
Manuka

Mānuka is a hardy shrub or small tree covered in small, prickly leaves and, in season, a haze of little white or pink five-petalled flowers. Crush a leaf and it releases a clean, resinous scent. It clothes whole hillsides in a soft pale haze when it flowers en masse.

Mānuka (Leptospermum scoparium) is one of New Zealand's best-known and most generous native plants, a tough, fast-growing shrub or small tree found from coast to mountains across the whole country. It is a pioneer, colonising bare and disturbed ground and sheltering the seedlings of the forest to come. Its massed white-to-pink flowers are the source of the famous mānuka honey. Sometimes called the tea tree, mānuka is a plant of renewal, the first to return and quietly restoring the land.

Frequently Asked Questions

 Explore Help Center
What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

Start with how you are feeling and what you would most like support with right now.

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

If you would like a personal recommendation you can send us a message or book in for a no obligation free consultation.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.

This essence I take daily as it ensures I stay on track with the energetic purification it offers. The tendency I used to have of holding onto old grudges and patterns is no longer there thanks to this amazing essence.
