Miro

Miro, or brown pine, is a graceful native conifer whose branches hang with plump, plum-red fruit. When the miro fruits, the forest fills with the deep coo of kererū drawn to feast.

Miro (Prumnopitys ferruginea, sometimes placed as Pectinopitys ferruginea) is a podocarp of New Zealand's lowland and hill forests, growing to around twenty-five metres with fine, yew-like foliage and a subtle rusty colouring that gives it its Latin name. Its large, fleshy red fruit is a favourite food of the native pigeon, the kererū, which gorges on it so eagerly that flocks gather when the tree is in season. The resin and fruit had traditional rongoā (medicinal) uses, and the aromatic gum was valued for treating wounds and easing complaints. A steady, handsome tree of the mixed podocarp forest, miro is woven into the living cycle of the bush and the birds it feeds.

What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

Start with how you are feeling and what you would most like support with right now.

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.
