Rimu

Rimu, or red pine, is one of the most elegant trees in the New Zealand forest, its branches draped in fine, weeping foliage that cascades down in soft green curtains. Slow-growing and long-lived, a tall rimu sways like falling water above the canopy.

Rimu (Dacrydium cupressinum) is a distinctive native conifer that can rise to thirty-five metres and live for many centuries. Young trees especially show the graceful, drooping sprays of scale-like leaves that give rimu its unmistakable weeping form. It grows throughout New Zealand in lowland and montane forest, often as a canopy emergent standing above its neighbours. Rimu bears a small seed set on a swollen red base, which native birds like bellbirds, kereru, tui and kakapo relish. Rimu's fine, richly figured reddish timber later became one of the country's most sought-after building and furniture woods. Whether young and cascading or ancient and towering, rimu carries a quiet, flowing beauty through the heart of the forest.

What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

Start with how you are feeling and what you would most like support with right now.

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.
