Meet the plant
Silver Pine

Silver pine, or manoao, is a slow-growing native conifer of New Zealand's wettest ground. It rises from acid swamps and boggy flats with tightly packed, scale-like foliage and a straight, clean trunk.

Silver pine (Manoao colensoi) is a New Zealand conifer of the podocarp family (Podocarpaceae) and the only species in its genus. It grows slowly into a tree of up to around fifteen metres, favouring wet, high-rainfall places such as acid swamps and poorly drained flats. Its foliage changes as it matures, from longer juvenile leaves to tiny, keeled, scale-like adult leaves pressed close along the twigs. Historically its timber was greatly valued for exceptional durability, straight and even in the grain and slow to decay, which made it sought after for demanding uses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Explore Help Center
What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

Start with how you are feeling and what you would most like support with right now.

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

If you would like a personal recommendation you can send us a message or book in for a no obligation free consultation.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.

Seriously an amazing shamanic essence promoting the language of the stones

This essence I go through alot. It is in sprays I keep in the car, in the loo, inside my home for when we come in from being out in the world, and in blends for outside my home and around the beehive. It ensures all environmental dross is cleansed from our beings and belongings, especially when I've been trawling the op-shops! I would not be without it.
