Meet the plant
King Fern

Meet New Zealand's king fern, with some of the largest, heaviest fronds of any native ground fern. Its thick, glossy fronds arch two to three metres from a stout crown, spreading a deep green canopy across the shaded forest floor. It belongs to an ancient lineage far older than the dinosaurs.

The king fern is a giant of the New Zealand bush, sending up thick, glossy fronds that unfurl to two or three metres from a stout, starchy crown, it belongs to one of the oldest families of ferns on Earth. It favours warm, sheltered, damp gullies and shaded lowland forest, only in the northern and western North Island, from inland Whanganui northwards. Its starchy underground stem was once an important food, and was valued enough to be cultivated rather than simply gathered. Once common through northern forests, the king fern is now classed At Risk, Declining, browsed by introduced animals and cleared with lowland forest, making a living plant a quietly precious sight.

What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

Start with how you are feeling and what you would most like support with right now.

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.

I always know when I need this essence, especially driving or as a passenger , ( old trauma from a fatal car accident) I take it when traveling & always notice the difference..ie, not jumpy, anxious etc. It's brilliant.
