Plumed Maidenhair Fern

The plumed maidenhair, sometimes called giant maidenhair, is the tallest and most elegant of the maidenhair ferns, rising on fine, wiry black stems to carry clouds of delicate, fan-shaped leaflets. Rain and dew bead and roll straight off its fronds, leaving them dry and gleaming.

Adiantum formosum is a large maidenhair fern that can stand close to a metre tall, its glossy, near-black stems as slender as wire and its finely divided fronds spreading in soft, plume-like tiers. Like other maidenhairs, its foliage is water-repellent, so droplets slide away and the leaflets stay bright. In New Zealand it grows in shaded, fertile forest and along stream terraces. Its airy, layered form and the way it catches light through the canopy make it one of the most graceful ground ferns of the northern bush, delicate in appearance yet quietly persistent where the conditions are right.

What is a stock flower essence?

A stock essence is the concentrated form of a single flower essence. It can be taken directly from the bottle or used to create a personalised blend.

First Light® stock essences are available as individual New Zealand native flower essences and combination essences, so you can choose and combine the essences to support how you are feeling or what you need help with.

How do I choose the right flower essence for me?

Start with how you are feeling and what you would most like support with right now.

You can explore keywords and information on each flower essence page, use the repertory to browse essences by feeling or need, or use the Constitutional Essence for a sense of inner balance and alignment.

How many essences can I combine?

Up to eight essences from No 1 to No 184 can be combined in a single personalised blend. No 0 Black Orchid can be added to any blend as a ninth essence.

This allows you to select a combination of essences to support the different emotional, energetic or personal growth needs.

Do flower essences contain alcohol?

Yes, generally flower essences contain a small amount of brandy, ethanol or grape as a natural preservative. To reduce the alcohol taste, add your drops to water.

How long does it take to notice a difference with flower essences?

It depends on the essence and the person. With an essence like Crisis Support for emergency or emotional first aid situations some people notice a difference within 15 to 20 minutes. Most people feel a shift within a few days. In general it takes about one month for changes to occur, and another month to integrate them.
